Dealing With Body Image
Body Image is important. Even when we're grounded in our Square-Pegness - and happy with who we are, we're still going to be affected by the constant media focus on Perpetual Youth.
The first piece we shared on our "Dealing with ... Body Image" pages - which is actually the inspiration for the "Body Image" section, is "My Left Breast", written by Luna (below). It's beautifully on-target. Without preaching, Luna helps us open our minds to beauty - real beauty, which has nothing to do with matching looks with media models.
You can find the poem, "THIS is my body", written by Tina M. Marks Shirley here. Tina shared this poem in our first "This is not my real body!" tele-call.
We have an article on self esteem - which is a related theme. Erin, the founder of Homemomma.com, wrote this article for her site (for SAHM's: Stay At Home Mom's), but the subject - and Erin's tips - are universal.
At the bottom of the page you'll find "My Body of Work", written by awesome Jaime Adcock, from Style Beyond Measure (a site you'll love visiting!) Jaime describes Style Beyond Measure as "an on-line 'love letter' in appreciation of women's fashions, clothing, style and beauty that transcends what the fashion press dictates, and celebrates the essence of a women's individuality - Your individuality, Your style, Your beauty - what makes you unique!"
