Depression Self-help

Book & Site Recommendations

Encourager reader Janet Laird told us about a wonderful book, The Depression Book: Depression as an Opportunity for Spiritual Growth, written by Cheri Huber.

Janet, a Wellness Recovery Educator, said: "This is an excellent and gentle book about depression and facing what you are repressing to cause the feelings of low energy and defeat." She also recommended Cheri Huber's website, where the author talks about compassion, choice, peace and practicing awareness - and offers her books and recordings.

I've seen Cheri Huber's name and Unconditional Self-Acceptance CD set a number of times. Each time I've read the CD description I've wondered about the author - as her philosophy sounds so akin to mine. Janet's recommendation drew me to get a number of Cheri Huber's books, which are SO grace-filled and accepting.

Another author that Janet mentioned is Mary Ellen Copeland. Janet facilitates recovery work based on Mary Ellen Copeland's program, and does individual sessions and teaches workshops in the Sacramento, California area. You can contact Janet at jjslaird@comcast.net.

Thanks for these great recommendations, Janet.
